Background
Nicola Capece was born in Potenza, Italy. He received the Laurea degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Basilicata, Italy, in 2015.
In 2015 he joined the ex. Dipartimento di Matematica, Informatica ed Economia (DiMIE) at the University of Basilicata, Potenza (Italy) where he completed the Ph.D. in Computer Science under the supervision of Prof. Ugo Erra in 2019. From May 2019 to the June 2021 he joined the ex. Scuola di Ingegneria (SI) at the University of Basilicata where he was a Research Fellow (Postdoctoral Researcher) under the supervision of Prof. Valerio Tramutoli and Prof. Giuseppe Scanniello. From June 2021 to June 2024, he served as a Postdoctoral Researcher at ex. DiMIE. He is now an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the Dipartimento di Ingegneria (DiING) at the same University. From November 2017 to April 2018 (six months) he joined the VCG-Lab at the ISTI-CNR Pisa for a visiting research period carrying out the role of principal investigator in the application of the Deep Learning for Computational Photography problems under the supervision of Dr. Roberto Scopigno. From May 2019 to February 2022 he was a member of the BASELab (BAsilicata Software Engineering) at the University of Basilicata. He is a member of the XR&AI Lab since 2014 at the same University. - 2019 Best Paper Award in 10th IEEE International Conference on Cognitive Infocommunication for the paper "A Deep Learning approach for the Motion Picture Content Rating", (23-25 October 2019 Naples)
- 2020 Best Presentation Award in 3rd IEEE International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality (IEEE AIVR 2020) for the paper "A Preliminary Investigation into a Deep Learning Implementation for Hand Tracking on Mobile Devices", (17 December, 2020)
